Who We Are

Geriatric Consultants are aging specialists who are trained in using their expertise in the unique settings of post-acute and long term care.
We….
- understand how medical conditions interact with aging bodies and multiple medications.
- use the latest research on aging to inform decisions and to educate others.
- understand how brain function interacts with physical function.
- are often involved in families’ lives during difficult times and our experience can make the difference between unnecessary and sometimes painful interventions and allowing aging with dignity.
- know the abilities and limits of facilities and their staff and we use that knowledge to avoid gaps in care and minimize returns to the hospital.

Our team brings a collective 600 years of experience, with each member averaging 14 years of dedicated care for the geriatric population.

Staff Spotlight: Autumn Smith, PA-C
Autumn started in the medical field as a CNA at a local Nursing and Rehab Facility in Hickory, NC to prepare to fulfill her desire to become a Physician Assistant. This plan was inspired by her love of her Anatomy Class in High School. In 1998, she graduated from Lenior Rhyne College with a bachelor’s degree of Science and completed the Physician Assistant Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. For the next 12 years, she cared for the medical needs of children as a Pediatric Physician Assistant but never forgot her passion for Elder Care. In 2011, Autumn began working with the two Geriatric physicians who would establish the Long-Term Care practice that would become Geriatric Consultants.
